Hi Jenna,

I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. There are actually two websites with the same name: ResumeBucket.com and ResumeBuckets.com. The scam site (ResumeBuckets.com) misappropriated the brand of the original site (ResumeBucket.com). They just added an S at the end of their name. Scam sites try to piggyback off the good will of genuine websites so you have to be careful.

The biggest red flag is the fact that they ask you for a credit report. No legitimate company will ask you to send in your credit report up front. They will do their own background check on you with the third party company they have contracted with. But before they can do that, they must have your signed permission to do so.

In any event, before sending your resume in response to an employment ad, write to them first to verify it is a legitimate job. Send an email to the ad and ask for information about the company, what the job entails etc. If you get a reply from a real person, then the job is probably legit. However, if you get a form letter in reply, then it's probably a scam.

Hope this helps

OK so I think I have been attacked by these scammers. First of all I'd like to start by saying that when I discovered all the job postings on craigslist I was very excited to say the least. I thought "wow, if I can't get a job on here, something must be wrong" (because there were sooo many postings in my area) so I took the time to make a resume specifically FOR craigslist because I noticed that most of them don't leave any personal info like the company phone number, etc, they only tell you to send your resume. So I made a resume and started sending it out to several different postings. I did receive a hand full of e-mail replys. I think maybe 1 or 2 out of 6 or 7 were actually legit jobs. One email directed me to that site to fill out an application for "their company" It was IDENTICAL to the app above. (with the personality & credibility stuff) A lot of the other responses made it seem like I was the #1 pick and that the only thing holding me back from moving further was that I needed to send them my credit report. I wasn't too comfortable about doing that... esp. since the website that one of them sent me in an email directed me to a site that wouldn't load. Hmmmmmmm! So I just checked my email today & I found an email that was for that resumebucket.com website, but I googled it first to see if anything relating to "spam" would come up. And sure enough it did. And that is how I stumbled upon this website. So is resumebucket.com a legit website? And thank you for the tips for craigslist

Hi Adelaida,

Thanks for visiting. I think Craigslist does still have value. You just have to be smarter about how you deal with the people you find on there. Personally, I've started looking for lesser known classified ad services that the scammers haven't started to plague yet.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for visiting. Sorry you had to go through that but that's awesome you were able to report them to their affiliate manager.

Yeah, the only way to get the attention of these scammers is to hit them in their bank accounts. Hopefully, if we can get enough of them banned maybe the rest will take the hint and stop.

Also, you have an awesome site :)

I don't know how much I really like Craigslist. You've got the typical scammers that attempts to rip people off for the whole community. Don't get me wrong there are benefits to CLIst, but do the goods really outweigh the bad?

Hi Arwen, great post. I got caught back in June 2009 by a craigslist scam. It took me about 2 months to unsubscribe to all of the junk email offers that were being sent to me daily. I even received a few calls, good thing I used a pay as you go cellphone number, so it was easy for me to ditch it.

I did report the affiliate to the affiliate manager.

When I originally commented I clicked the "Notify me when new comments are added" checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? - Thanks
