Off Grid Living?

I’ve decided that I will learn how to live off grid. I have actually had this thought for a few years now (actually since Bush came into office) but the seriousness of this was pressed upon me when I read an article that talked about the future.

In the article, the author wrote about how wonderful it is to have such great technology like the cell phone and the wonderful things you could do with it but speculated that there really was no guarantee that the infrastructure for these things will exist in the future and thus rendering them useless.

I was struck hard with the realization that we really don’t know what the future holds. It could be ten times better than it is now but equally it could be ten times worse. The threat of another world war or devastating climate changes is very real and technology has made us lazy. I believe very few of us know about growing food for human consumption or how to filter water for impurities or even basic first aid. I doubt many of us even have extra batteries for the flash lights.

I encourage everyone to really think about this and endeavor to learn a few survival skills starting with basic first aid. Learning how to deal with broken bones and cuts is information that will serve at any stage of life and human civilization.
